Velvet Brown is an internationally recognized orchestral and chamber tubist, composer and educator. She is the principal tubist of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra<ref>Altoona Symphony Orchestra - Meet the Musicians(retrieved on December 2, 2006).</ref> and has served as principal with the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra from 1989-2004, and as substitute or additional tubist with the Detroit Symphony, Saint Louis Symphony, San Francisco Women's Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.

Brown is associate professor of tuba and euphonium at Pennsylvania State University.<ref>Penn State School of Music (retrieved on December 2, 2006).</ref><ref>Faculty List (PDF), Pennsylvania State University.</ref> Prior to joining the faculty at Penn State, she taught at Bowling Green State University, Ball State University, and served as an associate director of university bands at Boston University, where she holds a master's of music degree. She is serving as the secretary of the executive committee of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association (ITEA), <ref>International Tuba Euphonium Association - committees (retrieved on December 2, 2006).</ref> and she is also a board member of the International Women's Brass Conference. She has performed with Junction, a female tuba-euphonium quartet.<ref>ITEC 2001, Lahti, Finland, retrieved on December 2, 2006.</ref>

She composed "Te Dago Mi", a duet for tuba and euphonium with piano.
