Villus (the Latin word for "shaggy hair"<ref name="tiscali" />, plural villi) can refer to:

• Intestinal villus. This is the most common meaning when not more precisely specified.

• Before babies are born, in their earliest stages of development, villi can be found on the surface of the outermost membrane (the chorion) of the fetus. These type of villi are known as chorionic villi. They help form the placenta. <ref name="medfriendly">[1] MedFriendly - Villus</ref>

• Villi are also located inside the brain. They stick out of one of the layers that covers the brain, the arachnoid membrane, and are known as arachnoid villi. <ref name="medfriendly" />
