The title Baron Tredegar was created in 1859 for the Welsh politician, Sir Charles Morgan, Bt. In 1905, the second baron was created Viscount Tredegar and when he died childless in 1913, the viscountcy became extinct, although the barony passed to his nephew, Courtenay, who was given a new creation of the viscountcy in 1926. Upon the death of his son (the chidless, second viscount), the viscountcy again became extinct and the barony passed to Courtenay's brother, Frederic. The barony became extinct in 1962, upon the death of the sixth baron.
