Waga District, Iwate

Waga (和賀郡; -gun) is a district located in Iwate, Japan.
As of 2003, the district has an estimated population of 17,829 and a density of 23.83 persons per km². The total area is 748.29 km².
Due to the recent mergers, there is only one town left.
[edit] Mergers
- April 1, 1991-The villages of Iwatsuriko and Waga merged with the city of Kitakami to create the new city of Kitakami.
- November 1, 2005-The town of Yuda and village of Sawauchi merged forming the town of Nishiwaga.
- January 1, 2006-The town of Towa merged with the former Hienuki District and the former city of Hanamaki to create the new city of Hanamaki.
