Weather buoy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Weather buoys are instruments which collect weather and ocean data within the worlds oceans. They measure parameters such as air temperature, water temperature, wave height, dominant wave period, barometric pressure, wind speed , wind gust and direction and to report these data via satellite communications to meteorological centers for use in forecasting and climate study. Both moored buoys or drifting buoys (drifting in the open ocean currents) are used.
