Westbus is a privately owned bus service in Western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is Sydney's largest private bus company serving the communities of Western Sydney and the Hills District by providing local, city, school and charter bus services. The corporate livery of Westbus is sunflower yellow.

Westbus was originally started by the Bosnjak family from Edensor Park. They sold to National Express Group (UK) in a multi million dollar deal. After several years of operating Westbus (and other transport operations in Australia), they declared Westbus bankrupt in 2005. Westbus is now a part of the Cabcharge/ComfortDelGro Corporation.

Westbus runs bus services around each of the 5 depots.

[edit] Depots

Westbus runs 5 different depots. Penrith, Windsor, Bonnyrigg, Northmead and Seven Hills.

[edit] Penrith Depot

Location: Mulgoa Road, Penrith

W.J. Bale and Sons were the original owners of the Penrith depot. They operated a fleet of 25 buses that serviced the Penrith area until 1973, when the Bosnjak family acquired the depot.

The depot later became part of Westbus. In 1984, Westbus acquired St Marys Bus Co and Bowmans Bus Service. In 1986, these services combined to run the Westbus Penrith

At present, the Westbus Penrith depot team includes over 140 employees and operates a fleet of 105 vehicles

[edit] Northmead Depot

Location: Boundary Road, Northmead

Northmead depot began operation in 1932 under the name of Parramatta Bus Service. This was when steam trams from Rogans Hill to Westmead ceased operation. Alf & Flow McIntosh were the owners of this service.

The depot was situated on Briens Road Northmead and was later relocated to the corner of Church & Dunlop Streets

Bosnjaks Bus Service Purchased the company in 1963 and the depot was operated from Church St.

It was then relocated to its present location in September 1978.

Northmead depot has a staff of approximately 190.

[edit] Seven Hills Depot

Location: Near Seven Hills Station, Seven Hills

The Seven Hills depot began operation in the late 1950s and was owned by Messers, Willmott and Holman. This was sold in the 1960s to C.H. Webb Brothers who also operated Granville Coaches. In 1974, C.H. Webb Brothers purchased Blacktown Bus Company and merged this with the Seven Hills operations to form Seven Hills Bus Co.

This consisted of 18 buses operating from the Seven Hills depot. In 1980, the company was sold to the nearby Toongabbie Bus Service, which was owned by the Delfs Family. This service became part of Westbus in the mid 1980s.

Westbus Seven Hills has a staff of approximately 52 and a fleet of 34 vehicles

The original Bonnyrigg bus service began operation in 1951 and was named Calabro's Bus Service. For thirty-eight years, this service was owned and run by three brothers: Frank, John and Baptist.

The business grew from five buses to sixty-eight buses servicing the Bonnyrigg, Fairfield West and Badgery's Creek areas. When the brothers retired in 1989, the service was purchased by Westbus.

Since this time, Westbus Bonnyrigg has continued to expand to a fleet of 83 vehicles and a staff of 131. In 2002, Bonnyrigg opened a new depot site.

Gosper's Bus Service operated the first buses servicing the Windsor area. This was a family run business, which began operation in 1890s, with a horse drawn bus. The depot was situated behind the Gosper family home in Richmond Road, Windsor.

The depot eventually moved to Thorley Street. In 1981 Gosper's Bus Service merged with Duffy's Bus Lines to form Macquarie Towns Coach Lines. Westbus acquired this operation in 1988.

The Windsor Depot continues to serve the Hawkesbury people with a fleet of fifty vehicles and a staff of sixty.
