From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
WildAid is an organization that seeks to end the illegal trade in wild animals. It operates in the field, meaning physical presence in the wild in protecting animals and apprehending poachers and smugglers. In addition to this, WildAid tries to affect the other facets of the problem, namely the demand for the products and the difficult economic situation of the local people who have to resort to poaching.
The founding members are Steven Galster, Suwanna Gauntlett, Peter Knights and Steve Trent. The organization's headquarters are in San Francisco and they have offices in China, India, Vladivostok, Cambodia, Thailand, Galapagos, Quito, London, Washington D.C. and New York City.
WildAid's programs include the Cambodia Conservation Program, the Surviving Together program in Southeast Asia, the Active Conservation Awareness Program (ACAP), a Marine Reserves Program in the Western Pacific, and Operation Phoenix, which conserves Amur tigers and leopards in the Russian Far East.
