With Teeth (also known as Halo 19, also printed as [With_Teeth]) is an album by Nine Inch Nails released on May 3 2005. With Teeth is the nineteenth official Nine Inch Nails release and the band's fifth major release. It is preceded by the 1999 double album The Fragile and is followed by the as-yet-untitled new album that is due out in 2007.

With Teeth was released as a standard CD, double vinyl, a DualDisc and a CD/DVD combo. In addition to 5.1 surround and stereo mixes of the songs, the DualDisc (and DVD) contain the video for "The Hand that Feeds", an interactive discography and a slideshow.

Unlike The Fragile, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor produced this album. Once again, Alan Moulder has been in charge of the mixing. According to a statement on the official NIN website, Reznor stated that world-famous producer Rick Rubin was Reznor's "mentor" and "source of inspiration" throughout the planning and writing process of this album. Making a guest appearance on drums is former Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl.

In a statement to his fans on the official website, Reznor explained that due to his dislike for the CD artwork constraints, the artwork, credits, and lyrics have been incorporated into a 20 megabyte 3'×4' poster (released as a free PDF file to those who register with the NIN website).

The tour for the album began in Fresno, CA on March 23, 2005 and features former A Perfect Circle and Marilyn Manson bassist Jeordie White (formerly known as Twiggy Ramirez), former Icarus Line guitarist Aaron North, keyboardist Alessandro Cortini, and returning drummer Jerome Dillon who was replaced in October 2005 by Alex Carapetis after experiencing heart trouble.<ref>Nine Inch Nails Recruit Replacement Drummer, MTV News October 10, 2005</ref>, who was in turn replaced quickly with Josh Freese.

The album's first single, "The Hand that Feeds," began radio play on March 14. A leaked copy of the song was broadcast on radio in February, and a leaked copy of "The Line Begins to Blur" appeared on the Internet soon afterward. On February 27, 2005, "Getting Smaller" leaked onto the Internet, followed by "Right Where It Belongs", and mere days afterwards, the entire album was leaked on filesharing networks 18 days before its official release.

The album's second single "Only," was released on July 25. A video, directed by David Fincher, was shot for it on April 19, 2005 and released on July 12 on the official NIN website.

In a Rolling Stone article, Reznor said about the album: "It's more song-oriented [than 1999's The Fragile.] It's much more lean. It's going to be twelve good punches in the face — no fillers, no instrumentals, just straight to the point." <ref>Baltin, Steve. Nine Inch Nails Let It Bleed, Rolling Stone February 24, 2004.</ref> With Teeth, unlike previous NIN albums, is not a concept album. Instead, Reznor says it is just "13 songs that are friends with each other" <ref>"To Hell And Back: Kerrang! interviews Trent Reznor", Kerrang!</ref>.

The working title for this album was Bleedthrough, referencing the phenomenon of audio bleed-through. Reznor stated that the name was changed because "it was supposed to be about different layers of reality seeping into the next, but I think some people were thinking about blood or a tampon commercial."<ref>"Hot Albums for 2005", Kerrang! No. 1038, January 2005</ref> The album was also previously thought to be called "The Mentality of One" <ref>Tokemaster General Pure Rock Newswire KNAC.com December 22, 2001</ref>, though this proved to be a hoax title.

This album was chosen as one of Amazon.com's Top 100 Editor's Picks of 2005.

This album was also named one of the top 40 albums of 2005 by Spin magazine.

The third single is the track "Every Day Is Exactly the Same". Unlike the previous two, Reznor announced that there will be no accompanying video for this single.

The first three singles from With Teeth have gone to #1 on the Modern Rock charts, a first for Nine Inch Nails.

This release, unlike previous Nine Inch Nails albums, carries out a "genre per track" scheme. Each track has its own feel, unlike previous concept albums. Examples of this are:

  • All The Love In The World: Ambient Drum and Bass
  • You Know What You Are: Synthesized Speed Metal with a hint of Surf Rock
  • The Collector: Jazz-influenced Hard Rock
  • The Hand That Feeds: An Electro-Rock March
  • With Teeth: Vampiric Lounge Act
  • Only: New-Wave-influenced Dance-punk
  • Getting Smaller: Robotic Punk Rock
  • The Line Begins To Blur: Heavily distorted Blues
  • Sunspots: Dark Soulful Anti-Ballad
  • Beside You In Time: A combination of Trance and Swing
  • Right Where It Belongs: A morbid Lennon-esque piano piece

All of the songs are open to a vast amount of interpretation and they could be part of a complete narrative about a person struggling with his alter-ego.
