Ying Yang Twins
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ying Yang Twins are an Atlanta-based crunk rap duo consisting of Kaine (born Eric Jackson on December 16,1978) and D-Roc (born D'Angelo Holmes on February 13, 1979). Despite their name, they are not related. The artists can frequently be heard yelling "hanh" on many of their tracks, and even have a complete song, "Hanh!," dedicated to their catchphrase.
They first came to notice in 2000 with the single, "Whistle While You Twurk," which got play on urban and pop radio stations, and peaked at #16 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Their full-length debut album, Thug Walkin', came out later that year. Their next album, Alley: The Return of the Ying Yang Twins (2002) sold quite well, but they didn't really achieve popularity until they collaborated with the "king of crunk" Lil Jon in 2002 for "Get Low." The party anthem was a huge club and radio hit and soon got the duo a deal with TVT Records.
The first album for the label, Me & My Brother, yielded three more hits — "What's Happnin!", "Naggin'" and the immensly popular collaboration with Lil Jon "Salt Shaker". The same year the duo appeared on Britney Spears' album In the Zone and her television special of the same name. In 2004, TVT released the remix-filled My Brother & Me with a bonus DVD of the group's videos. An album, U.S.A. (United State of Atlanta) appeared in the summer of 2005 as its singles "Wait (The Whisper Song)", "Badd," and "Shake" were dominating urban radio. U.S.A. (Still United), a collection of outtakes, remixes, and collaborations similar to "My Brother & Me" also appeared. It was also accompanied by a DVD with music videos and other footage from the U.S.A. (United State of Atlanta) period.
Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine covered "Badd" on their 2006 album "The Sunny Side of the Moon: The Best of Richard Cheese".
The groups fifth album "Chemically Imbalanced" was released in November 2006. For this album the Twins collaborated with super producers Wyclef Jean and Jerry "Wonda" Duplessis in addition to Mr. Collipark (who produced a majority of the groups previous albums). The first two singles were the Hall & Oats sampled, guitar-driven "Dangerous" featuring Wyclef Jean and "Jigglin'". Just days after the release of Chemically Imbalanced, it was announced that Mr. Collipark and the Ying Yang Twins have parted ways due to creative differences and will no longer work together.

[edit] Record Deal Shortage
The owner of the Ying Yang Twins rights have shorted them on their initial deal, and re-negotiated their contract after their first gold album in 2000, "Thug Walkin'". They now get very few royalties, and that is why their MTV Cribs episode showcases a very small home. This is because they cannot afford anything bigger than $340,000. The neighborhood is a gated community located near Discover Mills Mall, including well known street celebrity Zehra Rajani.
