Yongsan-gu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yongsan-gu is a district of Seoul, South Korea. It sits to the North of the Han River under the shadow of Seoul Tower. It is home to roughly 250,000 people, and is divided into 20 dong, or neighborhoods. Notable locations in Yongsan-gu include Yongsan Station, the sprawling Yongsan Electronics Market, and the Itaewon commercial district.
Yongsan-gu is also the site of Yongsan Garrison, a large United States military base. Because of the scarcity of land in central Seoul, as well as the perceived unpopularity of the base, the U.S. and South Korean governments have agreed to relocate the facility out of Seoul by 2008.
Sookmyung Women's University is located in the center of this district. Nearby, the legendary bar "Doors" has been a hub of Sookmyung social life for years.
N Seoul Tower, a must-go for tourists, has been re-opened. The tower is situated at the top of Namsan. The tower was built as a television transmitter.
Yongsan is served by Seoul Subway Line 1, Seoul Subway Line 4, and Seoul Subway Line 6.
