Yulian Vasilievich Sokhotski

Yulian Karl Vasilievich Sokhotsky (Юлиан Карл Васильевич Сохоцкий) (February 2, 1842 - December 14, 1927) was a Russian mathematician.

Sokhotsky was born in Warsaw, Poland under the Russian domination, where he attended state gymnasium. In 1864 he graduated from the Department of Physics and Mathematics at the University of St. Petersburg. In 1867 he received his Master's degree and in 1873 his doctorate. His Master's dissertation was practically the first text in Russian mathematical literature on Cauchy method of residue and published in 1868. The dissertation itself contains many original grasps, which have been also ascribed to other mathematicians.

Sokhotsky died in Leningrad, Soviet Union.
