Zhangjiajie

Zhangjiajie (Simplified Chinese: 张家界) is a prefecture (based on Zhangjiajie City) in the northwestern part of Hunan (湖南省) province in China, and comprises of the districts of Yongding (永定) and Wulingyuan (武陵源) as well as the Cili (慈利) and Sangzhi (桑植) counties.
The prefecture is mainly a tourist area. Although it used to be Korean influenced due to tourism and investment, increasingly, the tourists now come from all over China and Asian countries.
The Wulinyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area is comprised of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the Tianzishan (天子山) mountain ranges, BaoFengHu (宝峰湖) and the Suoxi Valley (索溪峪), and is a very popular filming and tourist destination.
Also in the Zhangjiajie area, Huanglongdong (黄龙洞) is a cave know for many natural rock formations (much like Wulinyuan) and its underground cataract.
The main population center is Zhangjiajie City, which was formerly known as Dayong (大庸). The name Dayong (大庸) was adopted by the city's elders to encourage its citizens to be more learned. An important Chinese literary work is the book 'zhong yong (中庸)' and so Dayong literally means more than zhong yong.
The 3-worded new name of the city, Zhangjiajie, was also purposely selected to mean "Open the family door to welcome the world" (张开家门引进世界).
