Branden Steineckert

Branden Steineckert (born April 21, 1978), is a rock drummer, most notable for the band The Used. He was the oldest member of the band. His fellow ex-bandmembers in The Used include Jeph Howard, Bert McCracken, and Quinn Allman.
Branden was born in Pocatello, Idaho, USA and was raised in a Mormon family which moved more than twenty times during his youth. In 1989, when Branden was 11 years old, his father committed suicide, after which he picked up skateboarding as a way to release himself from his problems. He later dropped out of high school.
In 1994 at the age of 16, Branden decided to learn how to play the drums because his late father also played drums at around his age. Before joining The Used as the drummer, he was a singer in a local band. Despite the environment he grew up in, and the people he hung out with, Branden has claimed to have never tried tobacco smoking, alcoholic beverages or recreational drug use in his life. In 2005 he founded the skateboard company twenty twenty skateboards, with Alex Pardee as Art Director.

[edit] Departure from The Used
On September 12, 2006, drummer Steineckert was announced as no longer part of the band, due to a wish to "move forward without Branden as our drummer". The new drummer has been chosen, Dan Whitesides. Some theories for Branden's departure from the band include his recent work producing other bands, and his engagement. The band's momentarily untitled third album is due out sometime in February 2007.
[edit] Becoming a member of Rancid
On November 3rd, 2006, it was announced that Branden would play drums for Rancid until the end of their tour. Replacing drummer of 15 years, Brett Reed. No permanent drummer has been announced, although on the UK tour they have been saying he will be their new drummer. Also, it is unclear if he will stay in the band to finish their new album that is due for release in the spring of 2007.
