The French Wiktionary (called Wiktionnaire in French) is a wiki dictionary covering words in many languages using the French language. For a time in 2006, it was the largest of the Wiktionary editions. As of 31 October 2006, it is the third largest Wiktionary edition and thirteenth-largest wiki on the Internet. [1] The French Wiktionary grew rapidly in 2006 thanks in large part to bots copying many entries from old, freely-licenced dictionaries (like the 8^th edition of the dictionnaire de l'Académie française, dating of 1935 with around 35,000 words), and using bots to add words from other Wiktionary editions with French translations.
