The French Wiktionary (called Wiktionnaire in French) is a wiki dictionary covering words in many languages using the French language. For a time in 2006, it was the largest of the Wiktionary editions. As of 31 October 2006, it is the third largest Wiktionary edition and thirteenth-largest wiki on the Internet. [1] The French Wiktionary grew rapidly in 2006 thanks in large part to bots copying many entries from old, freely-licenced dictionaries (like the 8th edition of the dictionnaire de l'Académie française, dating of 1935 with around 35,000 words), and using bots to add words from other Wiktionary editions with French translations.
