Mushroom gills

A gill, or lamella, is one of the papery ribs under the cap of an agaric mushroom. It is the hymenophore of the mushroom.

Morphologically, gills are classified into the following types:

  • Decurrent
  • Subdecurrent
  • Emarginate
  • Sinuate
  • Adnexed
  • Adnate
  • Free
