Robert William Thomson

Robert William Thomson (1822-1873) was the Scottish inventor of the rubber tyre.
Born in Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, Thomson patented the vulcanised rubber tyre in 1845, and a fountain pen in 1849. He also developed the technique of firing explosive charges using electricity.
He died at his home in Moray Place, Edinburgh aged 50.
